About This Spot

Stepping into Bottega on Valencia Street is like finding a quietly enchanting corner of Italy nestled within San Francisco’s vibrant Mission District. The moment you walk in, the pace slows just enough to settle into a mood that’s both welcoming and a touch sophisticated—where warm lighting gently embraces the pared-back yet thoughtfully feminine décor. It’s the kind of place where the hum of convivial chatter blends effortlessly with the reassuring clink of wine glasses and the occasional laughter from the next table.

This neighborhood gem feels simultaneously casual and considered, a space that invites lingering conversations over carefully crafted cocktails or a glass pulled from their thoughtful wine selection. Whether you’re here for the winding comfort of a meaty lamb ragu or the delicate balance of a burrata and prosciutto starter, the food becomes a part of the evening’s unfolding story, never rushed, always savored. The house-made focaccia, subtly aromatic and warm from the oven, offers a quiet but persistent reminder of the kitchen’s unspoken care.

Evenings at Bottega carry a little of that Italian warmth—the kind of service where the staff feel like escorted guides to a shared experience, attentive without being intrusive. The space has a softness that invites celebration, whether it’s an anniversary, a girls’ night out, or simply an impromptu stop for a rich espresso martini after a day wandering the city.

The atmosphere is unpretentious yet thoughtfully curated, where touches like blush pink chair cushions and a softly glowing bar add a playful elegance without veering into formality. It’s the familiarity and ease here that draws you back again, the kind of place where local regulars coexist with discovery-minded visitors, all drawn by the honest pleasure of good food, drink, and company.

We came across the restaurant on our way to an event. Had an appetizer and a pasta entree to share. Good quality food. Highly recommend the parma. A plus for their house focaccia bread.

Wonderful, girly decor, with awesome waitress and delicious food that's affordable. The setting feels more expensive then it costs, but still casual. I loved everything about it and all the pink chair pillows and cocktails, I cant wait to come back. Who ever designed the resturuant has good taste and the food was so great. I went here for my anniversary, ill definitely be back for a girls night and bring who ever visits me.

I absolutely adore this place! I walked in and immediately felt like I was transported to Italy. The gentleman that seated my friend and I was so kind and welcoming. All of the wait staff were helpful attentive throughout our dinner. The food was excellent! We got the pizza with Kalamata olives on top and we had a make-your-own pasta (both vegetarian). The drinks were amazing, too! All in all, this place was reasonably priced as well. I left full! Would highly recommend. I will definitely be taking a trip back here to try more items on the menu.

We had such a nice time having dinner at the Bottega last night! Sara and all the staff were extremely helpful, kind, & attentive. Sara recommended the Guancile pizza and the Oxtail pasta and we loved every bite! They also have amazing complimentary bread on the table! Loved it can't wait to go back!

Granting this a 5-star review here with one caveat, the waiters could be a little more friendly. We've been twice now. We are from the PNW but we frequent SFCA. We like the food and the vibe of the city... Bottega is no exception. Our first time, we came in for espresso martinis. Lord, those were delish! The bartender was so friendly, engaging, joked with us and had a legitimate good time. We really appreciated him. Came back the next night for dinner. It was cool outside but we took an outdoor table. Our waiter took drink orders. While we waited for the drinks, the waiter for the table next to us passed by... we asked for the outdoor heater to be turned on (we were extremely polite). He literally huffed at us and reluctantly turned it on. We thanked him and he ignored the gratitude. Nice looking guy, 20s, tats, crisp white shirt, looked professional but certainly didn't act like it. Food was excellent. All four of us got a different pasta that we thoroughly enjoyed. Drinks were strong and on-point. Wait was a little long but that can be overlooked when considering the quality of food. Service was great, unfortunately our wonderful waiter was shaded by his coworker who had a bit of attitude. After nearly 25 years in customer service and patient care... let me recommend one thing... don't let your teammates ruin your patron's (potentially) perfect experience. You may not be our waiter but your actions are observed.

Our waiter, Giovanni, was attentive and kind throughout the entire experience. We started with Brussels sprouts and bruschetta, which were excellent. For the main courses, we ordered gnocchi with Bolognese sauce, gnocchi with pesto, and fettuccine with vodka sauce. Everything was very flavorful, beautifully prepared, and the staff was extremely friendly and welcoming.

Bottega's food is authentic and most of the staff is Italian, they are very hospitable and knowledgeable about the menu. If I lived here, it would come at least once a week. Eggplant Parmesan is the best I have ever tried statewide. Flavor profile of the dish was the perfect melody savory and umuni, creamy and tangy. Restuarant has quality ingredients and willing to accommodate vegetarians.

Their mushroom truffle pizza is a must-try! The mozzarella and truffle was magic on first bite. I added arugula and anchovy in mine which made it even more bomb. Love their “build your own” pizza and pasta concept and the open seating made me feel like being in Europe.
